397km from Addis Ababa (in the Jimma zone), a cooperative union collectively developed this delicious coffee: Nano Challa. The yield of these small-scale farmers collaborating, Nano Challa continues the region’s storied history of producing quality coffee-- as Jimma, Sidama, and Gedeo are the top three coffee producers in Ethiopia.
Although its co-op is a more recent establishment (2016), Nano Challa underwent old-school Ethiopia cultivation and processing. The cherries, a classic assortment of Ethiopia heirlooms, were grown from 1900 to 2000 masl. Then, the coffee soaked in a 12-hour fermentation that concluded with drying on raised beds.
These traditional practices result in a characteristically radiant Ethiopian. Nano delivers notes of kiwi and lingering key-lime that's anchored by a butterscotch body.
