Ethiopia Geta Bore
Geta Bore is the first lot we are releasing from this year’s fresh Ethiopian harvest. This is our second season buying this lot from the Kata Muduga Multipurpose Farmers Union. Expect flavors of mango, vanilla and rose water.
The Geta Bore cooperative is made up of 232 smallholder farmers in the Jimma zone of Southwestern Ethiopia. The cooperative was formed with the assistance of the NGO TechnoServe with the goal of creating opportunities for farmers in the area to produce a high quality crop. The mill is outfitted with a depulping machine called a Penagos, which mechanically removes not only the cherry from the seed, but also a large amount of mucilage. This mechanical removal greatly reduces water waste, making it a more eco-friendly option.
