This coffee was produced by Alma Pineda who is a member of the Pineda Family in El Cedral, Santa Barbara. Alma's Father and 3 bothers are all Specialty Coffee Producers an dis married to Evin Moreno, who is renowned for the quality of his coffees.
This year marks the first harvest of this 100% Parainema varietal which is a hybridized cultivars (Timor and Villa Sarchi) resistant to coffee leaf rust and nematode infestations. First introduced to Honduras in 2010, this short shrub with either green leaf tips, bronze of both depending on the lineage was created as a part of a series of experiments to help producers with leaf rust and pests which is prevalent issue all across Central and South America.
In terms of quality, rust resistant varietals aren't known for exhibiting favorable cup quality but we are happy to learn that this Paraneima is the rule to that exception.
