Schüler is not a name we’d expect to hear in the middle of Peru. Yet coming out of Finca Schüler (a farm near Villa Rica, Peru) are some beautiful coffees that we are growing to expect out of this region. This farm is the result of the union of two historical coffee families, the Austro-German Schülers (settling in the area in 1868) and the Peruvian Vidurrizaga family (history dating back to 1920). Nine decades of family coffee farming later, this small empire employs only the most experienced pickers to select cherries grown at 1,650 masl, and processes all coffee cherries within a private family mill the same day they are picked. A double fermentation process plus an extensive 14-day drying process under parabolic dryers means that the inherent qualities of the coffee remains perfectly intact. The Pacamara we have selected out of Finca Schüler is only one of the many varieties this expansive family specializes in cultivating.
About the Producers
The Vidurrizaga family story dates back to the 1920s in the town of Villa Rica in central Peru. Don Wilfredo Vidurrizaga was a professional boxer who migrated from the Peruvian Andes to the town of Villa Rica and started as a day laborer in the farms to make ends met. As the years went by, he developed a passion for the trade and eventually became one Peru’s largest coffee producers.
On the other side of the family, Mr. Wendelin and Herta Schüler were Austro-German settlers who migrated to Peru in 1868, lived in a village called Pozuzo, and later moved to Villa Rica where they took interest in coffee. After the Schülers and the Vidurrizaga family were united via marriage, they decided to join their separate coffee businesses together.
Fast forward to 2017. Due to endless efforts during the harvest season, and to the careful observations of how different methods work with different varietals, the coffees coming out of these 100 hectares is nothing short of spectacular.

All orders are roasted on Monday through Thursday and are shipped on the same day if order is received by noon on the day the order is placed, otherwise it will ship on the following day. Orders received after Thursday will be pushed to the following roast day.
