Kenya Kamavindi Washed comes from the Mbature family’s Kamavindi Estate in Embu County, on the southeastern slopes of Mount Kenya at 1,680 meters. Founded in 1958 under colonial restrictions that allowed just 100 coffee trees, the farm has grown into a thriving 10,000‑tree estate planted with SL28 and SL34, with a small number of Ruiru 11, Batian, and experimental Gesha trees. Today, under the leadership of Peter Mbature alongside his mother Hellen and sister Gladwell, Kamavindi is both a working farm and a regional hub for education, with an on‑site cupping lab and training center supporting local farmers in quality development and sustainable practices.
Each cherry is hand‑picked at peak ripeness, floated and sorted, and processed using a meticulous washed method with a two‑phase dry fermentation, multiple rinses, and slow sun‑drying on raised beds. The result is a coffee that’s vibrant and layered: jammy black currant that meet with a blood orange acidity and brown‑sugar sweetness, finishing with honeysuckle and tea‑like florals. Silky and structured, Kamavindi is a coffee that carries the story of heritage, innovation, and community in every cup—an origin we are proud to share at Metric
