The name “Sookoo,” meaning "gold" in the local language, reflects founder Ture Waji’s belief that coffee can be the true treasure of the region—bringing renewal rather than depletion.
Sookoo runs several high-elevation drying stations near Shakisso, working directly with farmers and paying premium prices for high-quality cherries. Pricing is set before harvest, ensuring fairness and stability. Beyond purchasing, Sookoo invests in farmer training, infrastructure, and education for the community.
This lot comes from Bookkisa, a village at around 2,000 meters above sea level, sourced from 33 smallholders, each cultivating just a few hectares.
Under Ture’s leadership, Sookoo Coffee also supports reforestation efforts, distributing native tree seedlings and promoting sustainable practices. As a leading voice among a new generation of producers, Ture is helping shape a future for Guji rooted in stewardship, resilience, and hope.
